Website Designer
What does it take to be a website designer?
A web designer is not a single skill requires numerous skills in a number of disciplines.
We have heard of the guy who has a son that can design websites, this is the guy that got a copy of Microsoft front page from his Moms office and learnt how to put pages together. Well it’s a lot more complex than that.
Firstly the designer must have a good grasp of layout, which you learn at design school, then need to be imaginative and creative, meaning a bit arty.
If you feel comfortable in your designing skills and have the knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator to design a front page of a magazine, a company brochure or a cd cover for a new pop band, then you are halfway there.
Do you understand how the internet works, is a good start, do you know how search engines work? Have you any software development skills in HTML, CSS, PHP, C#, javascript, flash, ASP.net and SQL or MySql database knowledge.
Good design is a good looking websites that loads fast, is easy to navigate and doesn’t have colours that clash or moving things that distract the visitor. It must have descriptive content that is optimized through all the associated meta tags and MUST pass the W3C validation.
